THEATRE OF HEARTS/YOUTH FIRST ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAMS
Youth First Artist-In-Residence Educational Workshops teach new skills to young participants and involve them in positive hands-on creative experiences with Theatre, Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Storytelling, Music, Choral Singing and Dance. A concluding “Work-In-Progress” event provides a showcase for student works produced during the workshop series in the form of a performance, exhibit or published work that can be shared with their peers, faculty and administration, parents and/or local community.

Teacher Training & Development
Teacher Training and Professional Development workshops are primarily designed to assist teachers in methods and techniques of incorporating the arts into the standard school curriculum. Teachers have had success in applying TOHYF teaching methods and skills to almost every subject area such as math, language arts, social studies and the sciences. As a result, student performance has improved significantly in all course work.
Each participant receives instruction that includes theoretical approaches, skill and technique building, and performance development from a professionally trained culturally, diverse artist. Educators receive first hand knowledge of the process of making art and how this process can become an integral part of their teaching strategy. Each artist will teach methods of bringing aspects of the California State Standards of the Arts into the participants’ curriculum to enhance student absorption and retention of academic subjects.
