WHY DO YOUTH NEED ARTS EDUCATION?
After educating several generations of Los Angeles County youth, Theatre Of Hearts/Youth First knows that art builds youngsters with self-esteem and self-confidence: essential ingredients in helping children create positive options in life, affirming their sense of self, and helping them find their voice. But artmaking is also a vital tool: by involving youth in the process of creativity, they learn how to solve practical problems for many applications besides making beautiful objects.
School, play, work and home life are enhanced when youth learn to think critically and to bring creative problem-solving skills to bear on life, space and relationship challenges. Creativity engages youth in thinking in terms of choice and possibility, transcending circumstance and limitation. Creative youth discover how to excel at life, and become adults who will lead our country in innovation in all fields of enterprise in the future.
